CA or Cab to Axle refers to the distance/length in inches between the back of the cab and the center of the rear axle.
Did my truck come with a midship tank?
YES: Great! All you need to purchase is a Titan tank. You don’t need to worry about anything else on this page.
NO: You’re going to need a few extra parts. Let’s help you get everything sorted.
No. The Ram trucks come with the DEF tank installed out of the way of the midship tank.
As an Auxiliary Tank: Your Titan midship tank will be installed where the stock midship would be located. The fuel in the tank will be transferred into your stock aft-axle tank. This is similar to an auxiliary in-bed tank system. You'll also need to purchase:
Titan Ram Chassis Auxiliary Kit - PN: 9900057 (Comes with a sending unit, auxiliary pump, controller, and all necessary wiring.)
A fill neck for your new tank. (Titan offers a Universal Filler Neck Kit - PN: 9900025)
By deleting my aft-axle tank and using the Titan tank as a stock midship: While deleting the aft-axle tank is a common enough practice, we have found that Ram prefers to work with registered upfitters or dealers for parts such as fuel lines. We highly recommend working with a registered upfitter in your area with experience doing these modifications.
We recommend replacing your existing fuel lines with lines designed for the Ram midship tank. While fuel line modifications are possible, DO NOT modify your fuel lines without a thorough understanding of the process.
The aft-axle sending unit is tall enough to work with our midship tank, but the float arm points the wrong direction. This requires the sender to be clocked at a different angle and requires the orientation tab to be modified. Please be aware that these sending units are made from a brittle plastic that cracks easily.
Rather than trying to rearrange or adjust the electrical harness, we recommend extending the wires in the electrical connection.
As a stock Ram tank by reconfiguring my truck to have stock dual tanks: This installation is extremely complicated. Please be aware that this will essentially require you to completely replace all fuel lines, sending units, and the entire electrical harness for your vehicle. If your vehicle requires a dual stock tank set-up, we HIGHLY recommend purchasing a truck that comes with dual stock tanks. That method would only require you to swap out the stock midship for the Titan midship tank.
Fuel capacities shown for each and every Titan Fuel Tank are not a claim: it is fact, we show the usable capacity for every tank!
In fact, the tanks are larger than their usable capacity. Usable fuel capacity is the portion of the tank that can safely hold fuel and allows the fuel to be picked up by the sending unit.
For example, our 7020217 tank for the 2017+ Ford Crew Cab, Short Bed trucks is marketed as a 55 gallon tank. Could it hold more? Yes! Another 5 gallons of capacity exists in the tank, but that capacity is not usable. This 5 gallon area above the filler neck is for expansion/vapor headspace to dissipate the pressure changes in the tank due to temperature and elevation changes. We choose to not mislead our customers and market only the usable capacity, 55 gallons.
We chose to only market usable capacity to set honest and reasonable expectations for our customers.
Distance Till Empty and Similar Information For Mid-Ship Replacement Tanks
Many trucks now come pre-programed with the capacity of the Original Equipment Manufacturers’ (OEM) fuel tank. Replacing the OEM tank with any extra-large capacity, direct replacement tank will result in the distance to empty information being incorrect. This information may be corrected on many trucks.
-2017+ Fords: Customers may use ForScan, a program designed for Ford trucks that allows the computer to be adjusted for the capacity of a TITAN Fuel Tank.
-2011-2016 Fords: Ford dealers can adjust the customer’s capacity using their Ford Motor Company software. These trucks are also compatible with ForScan.
-2019+ Dodge RAMs: Customers may use Alfa OBD, a program designed for RAM trucks that allows the computer to be adjusted for the capacity of a TITAN Fuel Tank.
Such solutions are entirely independent of, and not guaranteed by TITAN Fuel Tanks™.
Really happy with the Titan sidekick tank in my Ford Raptor. It's super nice having an extra 15 gallons of fuel when we are up in the hills or on a road trip. I Would recommend their products to anybody.
